Eligibility Criteria for Solar Battery Loan
To be eligible for the Solar Battery Loan as a Victorian householder, you must meet the following conditions:
1. Property Ownership and Occupancy
- You must be the owner-occupier of an existing property where the solar battery system will be installed.
- Homes under construction are not eligible for this loan.
2. Income Limits
- The combined taxable income of all owners in your household should be less than $210,000 per year.
3. Property Value
- The value of the property should be under $3 million.
4. Rebate History
- The address must not have received a solar battery rebate previously.
5. Existing Solar Panel System
- The property should have a solar panel system with an inverter capacity of 5kW or greater, either already installed or planned to be installed alongside the solar battery.
6. Energy Storage System
- The property cannot already have an existing energy storage system.
7. Energy Storage Solution Capacity
- The proposed energy storage solution must have a capacity of at least 6kWh and must be listed on the approved battery product list.
8. Pre-Approval to Connect to the Grid
- You must have obtained pre-approval from your Distributed Network Service Provider (DNSP) to connect your battery system to the grid.
9. Battery Trial Participation
- Property owners must agree to receive information from the DNSP about participation in battery trials to maximize the household's benefits.
Important Note:
- The solar battery loan is not available for properties under construction.
Step-by-Step Process for Solar Battery Loan Application
If you meet the eligibility criteria, follow this structured process to apply for your solar battery loan:
Step 1: Review Your Energy Usage and Budget
- Assess your household's energy usage and determine how much you can afford to spend on a battery system.
Step 2: Research Product Options
- Explore various battery products and systems by consulting our Battery Buyers Guide.
Step 3: Consult an Authorized Solar Retailer
- Speak with an authorized solar retailer for expert advice and guidance on the best battery options for your home.
Step 4: Obtain Pre-Approval to Connect to the Grid
- Work with your retailer to get pre-approval from your DNSP to connect and export energy to the grid.
Step 5: Request a Written Quote
- Ask your retailer for a written quote. The retailer will upload this quote directly to the Solar Victoria portal.
Step 6: Wait for Quote Upload Confirmation
- You will receive an email confirmation once your quote has been successfully uploaded to the portal.
Step 7: Verify Your Eligibility
- Upload all required eligibility documents to the portal, such as proof of income, property ownership, and other supporting paperwork.
Step 8: Eligibility Confirmation
- We will review your eligibility and confirm whether you meet the requirements. You will then receive instructions for the next steps, including financial checks.
Step 9: Complete a Credit Check
- A credit check will be conducted to assess your financial capacity to repay the loan.
Step 10: Submit Loan Application
- Submit your loan application along with the required financial documents.
Step 11: Loan Approval and QR Code
- Upon loan approval, you will receive a QR code, which you will need to proceed with the installation of your solar system.
Step 12: Install Your Solar System
- You have 120 days from the date of loan approval to complete the installation of your solar system and battery.
Step 13: Pay the Remaining Balance
- After the loan is applied, pay the remaining balance to your retailer. This is the total cost minus the loan amount.
Step 14: Begin Loan Repayments
- Once the installation is complete, begin repaying your interest-free loan with monthly payments over a 4-year period.
Installation Timing:
- Important: The installation must be completed within 120 days from the loan approval date. Make sure to meet this deadline to ensure timely loan processing and installation.
